Distracted

These past few weeks I have been a bit distracted from my usual airgun activities. My wife and I had been thinking about getting a small dog for several months and had been looking at a wide variety of breeds and reading up on them. We had decided to wait until after the first of the year to actually get a dog since my step daughter is getting married in December and we have a lot of weekend events coming up associated with that. We looked at a few dogs just to get an idea of what we wanted to look for when the time came to get a dog.

Well, about two weeks ago Deb was looking at the local newspaper on-line and was checking out the pet classified ads and noticed a Yorshire Terrier & poodle mix that a family was trying to find a new home for. We thought we would take a look at her since I am a fan of terrier and poodle mixes. Well, that was our big mistake, well not really. We went to visit this dog and we knew as soon as we saw her that she was going to be our little doggie. Her name was Whiskey, which considering the family that had her didn't surprise me. She looks pretty much like a standard Yorshire Terrier but she is on the small size, weighting in at a whopping 4 lbs. and a couple of ounzes. She is about a year and 4 months old so we wouldn't have to go through all the puppy problems. The family also had a Chihuahua as well which seemed to dominate over Whiskey and she was definitely very submissive.

Well, we told them that we would take her and off we went for home. We didn't like her given name so we had it legally changed to Sophie, which seemed so much more fitting for such a nice little doggie. She is pretty much house broken already and loving her new family and she says that she doesn't miss that yappy little Chihuahua at all! She is a very friendly dog and loves Deb, Sophie will follow her around all over the house. She like me and my son too but she takes a little time to warm up to men for some reason. She does this cute little thing Deb calls her belly dance, she will lay flat on her belly with her legs stretched out in front and behind her and then pull herselft across the floor with her front feet. It is really funny! She has made friends with the neighbor's dog and like going for walks in the evening (which takes about 5 mintues since she is so little).

I plan to start training her to shoot airguns this week. I ordered a little doggie airgun from PetsMart so she can go out to the range with me and shoot. It may take a little time but I think she could be a top shooter in doggy class. She has been taking up my time these past few weeks and I haven't shot much because of it. Once I get an airgun for her, she can come outside and shoot with me in the evenings!
