A Beautiful Day Shooting
We had a local airgun match today at our club here in Huntsville. After a few rainy and stormy days today was sunny and pleasant. There was just enough wind to keep us cool and to make shooting interesting. I really enjoyed being out at the range today. Over the past few weeks and months work and home life have been really busy and it was really nice to be out away from it all if only for a day.
We shot two matches today, a 30 shot Hunter field target match and a 60 shot traditional match. I wasn't too focused at the start of the day for the Hunter match, I missed a bunch of shots just by not following through with my ever accurate .22 cal ProSport. I have a Hawk 6x scope mounted on it that has a mil-dot reticle so holdover/off is really pretty straight forward. It doesn't have an adjustable objective so I just have to point and shoot. This combo is my critter rig for the homestead and it is quick to aim and shoot with.
I just got my HW97 back from Paul Watts a couple of weeks ago and haven't had much time to really get a good zero on it. I tried to get the best zero I could out on the range in the hot Alabama sun but it move around a bit as it heated up. I got what I thought was a good zero and headed off for the traditional course. As the gun and scope cooled down in the shade of the course my zero gradually started to climb and I ended up taking out 18 clicks of elevation to get the gun basically zeroed again. It was a tough day since I didn't really get it back on track until the last lane. Ahh, that the breaks, I still had a great time shooting with Rod Bradley and Bill Greene during the two matchs and having fun at this hobby is what it is all about for me.
