Golden Day Shooting
After a week of vacation I finally had a chance to work on a bell target that I got from Bill Isaacs at the Good Ole Boys match last June. The bell target is a gong style bell that is attached to a big square faceplate. In the middle of the faceplate is a 1/2" hole that has a flapper the will ring the bell when shot. I installed a spring on the flapper so that only a solid hit would ring the bell. I got out to my garage workbench right after work and spent about 30 minutes working on the bell and a target holder.
Once I completed the upgrades I took the bell out to the back yard to shoot a few test shots at it. The bell worked fine but what was really surprising was how well I was shooting. It had been a very busy and stressful day at work and more times than not when I have days like that I have a hard time shooting well. I moved out to my 50 yard target stand and starting shooting some of my ½” bolts and other fun targets. My hold was steady, the trigger felt like an extension of my finger, and my follow through allowed me to see the pellet hitting the target. It was one of those golden days and I knew it when I shot one shot at a paper target and the pellet hole appeared right where the crosshairs where when the shot was released. I used that hole as my aim point for my next shot and then next hole appeared right next to the first shot. After a couple more shots like those it was time to quit while I was ahead.
The time I spent “playing in the garage” really helped me to unwind and relax after a very busy day. This sport can be very frustrating at times but it can also be relaxing and soothing after a long hard day at work. My time fiddling around with targets and other gadgets for my airguns adds a lot to the hobby and adds a lot to my enjoyment of this great shooting sport.

Just ran across you blog today. What a great subject for a blog! I have a Sheridan that is about 30yrs old...I think. I believe I got it when I was in 8th grade. I killed a lot of rats and starlings with that gun. Anyway I just got it out today for the first time in many years. I put a little oil in the pump and it was shooting just fine.
I'm thinking of getting a new air rifle. A single cock type. But I want it to be quite. Just wondering what you would recommend?
